Crock-Pot Pulled Pork

January 5, 2012

I absolutely love pulled pork! This is a simple recipe with a delicious homemade sauce. It does require a little effort to pull the pork at the end but it is well worth it and it makes a good amount of meat.

Crock Pot Pulled-Pork

  • 3 lb boneless pork shoulder, trimmed of excess fat.
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp light-brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • ¾ tsp dried sage
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • Course salt and ground pepper

–    In a 5-6 qt slow cooker mix together ½ cup ketchup, sugar, garlic, sage and oregano. Add 1 tsp salt and ½ tsp pepper.
–    Cut pork in half lengthwise and add to slow cooker.
–    Turn to coat. Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours or high for 6.
–    Once cooked, Transfer meat to a large bowl.
–    With large spoon, skim off any excess fat on surface of cooking liquid.
–    With two forks pull meat apart (careful – very hot) until shredded. I make sure to remove any excess fat that was missed as well.
–    Return meat to slow cooker and add remaining ¼ cup ketchup and stir. Add salt and pepper if needed. ( I never did)
–    I usually put on high and cook for 20-30 more minutes so the flavors get to meld more.
–    Spoon into rolls and enjoy.

This is a great simple meal and can last a few days in the fridge. You can also use it for a party or get together.

Make it, Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!!!
